There’s plenty of opportunity for watersports on the River Usk and Llangorse Lake. Or explore the peaceful Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal by boat. There’s fantastic fishing on the Usk too.

Paddle your own canoe

Canoeing is a very popular activity in the Abergavenny area. For gentle or long-distance canoeing there’s the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal. Paddling quietly along is a great way to nature-spot . A short drive from Abergavenny is Goytre Wharf – a fun place to visit.  There is boat and canoe hire, cafe, playroom, picturesque walks along the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal and there is also accommodation vailable.

Fun on Llangorse Lake

A short drive from Abergavenny, Llangorse lake offers everything from waterskiing and sailing to windsurfing and rowing. There is also pedallo and canadian canoe / kayak hire – find out more from the Llangorse Lake website. Near Usk, Llandegfedd offers fishing and watersports (kayaking, sailing and windsurfing).

Fishing beats on the Usk

There’s fantastic fishing on the River Usk (for salmon, sea trout and brown trout) during the season which runs roughly from March to October. Merthyr Tydfil Angling Alliance owns the Fishing Rights on several Beats of the River Usk (Trout and Salmon) and Local Reservoirs.

Swanmeadow Fishery

Situated between Abergavenny and Usk Swanmeadow Fishery offers a mile of single bank fishing on the River Usk. The beat has 10 named pools alongside
