Abergavenny Food Festival 2026: A Weekend of Food, Fun and Flavour

There’s something special about Abergavenny in September. As summer starts to wind down, the town comes alive for one of the biggest weekends in the local calendar: Abergavenny Food Festival.

Taking place on the 19th and 20^th of September 2026, the festival brings food lovers, local producers, chefs, growers, writers and makers together. Now in its 28th year, it has become a much-loved part of the town and a fantastic reason to spend a weekend exploring Abergavenny.

More than just a food market

Food is at the heart of the festival, but there’s much more to discover during this fun-packed weekend!

Visitors can explore more than 120 food producers and stallholders, alongside more than 80 chef demonstrations, talks and events. With such a wide range of culinary treats, there are plenty of opportunities to discover something new.

The festival takes place across several venues throughout the town, with cooking demonstrations in the grounds of Abergavenny Castle, and talks exploring the future of food.

There’s plenty for younger visitors too, with under-16s attending for free, family entertainment and a Kids’ Cookery School offering hands-on cooking sessions.

Meet the people behind the food

One of the best things about Abergavenny Food Festival is meeting the people behind the food you eat.

The festival puts a real focus on producers, growers and makers, giving visitors the chance to hear their stories and learn more about where food comes from. The programme also explores bigger questions around farming, food production, sustainability and the future of food.

The 2026 programme includes everything from plant-based cooking and British barbecue to mead tasting, food waste, ultra-processed foods and Welsh food culture. There are also guided walks and foraging experiences for those wanting to explore beyond the festival.

Abergavenny after dark

On Saturday evening, Abergavenny Castle comes alive for Party in the Castle, with live music, food, fire poi and plenty of festival atmosphere. With four bands performing, it’s a great way to round off a day of eating and exploring.

For anyone making a full weekend of it, there are also plenty of independent businesses, cafés, restaurants and shops around Abergavenny to discover between festival events.
