We’ve got the great outdoors on our doorstep
So if you love walking, cycling or horse riding Abergavenny is a great base for you. You’ll also find sports for the adventurous like paragliding plus great climbing and mountain biking too.
Easy-going ways to enjoy Abergavenny
There are just as many easy-going ways to enjoy the countryside of the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons National Park (both of them our back yard). Why not go for a gentle stroll along the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal or head to the woods for a walk.
There are also gardens to enjoy, like Abergavenny’s Linda Vista Gardens, and you can take a boat trip or hire a boat to explore the canal.
The River Usk is great for fishing (with a permit and during the fishing season – your accommodation provider will be able to advise). In the summer there are some lovely spots wild swimming. Canoeing the white water rapids is popular in the winter. See our On The Water page for more ideas.
Don’t forget the area is chock full of history and heritage too – you’ll find castles, medieval manor houses, Roman remains, standing stones and modern industrial history (including the National Coalmining Museum at Big Pit) and more all within easy reach of Abergavenny.
